Language Information


Madurese is spoken on the small island of Madura, lying adjacent to Java, as well as that part of eastern Java which faces Madura. Like Sundanese, it was traditionally written in the Javanese script but recently the Roman alphabet has come into use. Madurese is another of the Malayo-Polynesian languages. There are about 8 million speakers.
