Bashgali (Kamkata-viri) is spoken in eastern Afghanistan, in Nuristan Province, and in the Chitral district of northern Pakistan.
Bashgali is a Nuristani language, forming a separate branch of Indo-Iranian. The Nuristanis were formerly called Kafirs ("unbelievers") because they kept their traditional religion until the 1890s.
