Alyawarra

Extinct language

Language Information

The Alyawarra (or Alyawarr) language is spoken exclusively in Australia, specifically within the Northern Territory and extending across the eastern border into Queensland.
There are approximately 1,500 to 1,950 fluent speakers. Unlike many other indigenous Australian languages that have faced extinction, Alyawarra remains an actively spoken, living language used daily across generations in Central Australia, though it is considered vulnerable to language shift over time.
