Anglo-Frisian is a sub-branch of the West Germanic languages comprising the Frisian languages and the Anglic languages (English and Scots).
Anglo-Frisian (specifically its surviving Frisian branch, alongside global Anglic languages) is spoken in specific regions along the southern fringes of the North Sea:The Netherlands: West Frisian is spoken primarily in the Dutch province of Friesland (Fryslân), including islands like Schiermonnikoog and Terschelling. It has about 450,000 to 875,000 total speakers and holds official minority status.Germany: North Frisian is spoken in the northernmost district of Nordfriesland and the island of Heligoland in Schleswig-Holstein, with roughly 8,000 speakers. East Frisian (specifically Saterland Frisian) is spoken by about 2,000 people in Saterland, Lower Saxony.Global (Anglic Branch): The other primary branch of Anglo-Frisian is the Anglic group, which includes English (spoken globally by over a billion people) and Scots (spoken primarily in Scotland and parts of Ulster).
