Benue-Congo is a major branch of the Niger-Congo family, spoken from Nigeria across Central, East, and Southern Africa.
It includes about 1,000 languages, among them the Bantu languages such as Swahili, Zulu, and Shona, as well as Nigerian languages such as Tiv, Efik, and Ibibio. It is named after the Benue and Congo rivers.
