Buyi (Bouyei) is spoken in southern China, mainly in Guizhou Province, and by small communities in northern Vietnam.
Buyi is a Northern Tai language, closely related to Zhuang, with about 2.5 million speakers. It is written in a Roman-based alphabet devised by the Chinese government in the 1950s.
