Fayumic was a dialect of Coptic spoken in the Fayum Oasis southwest of Cairo, in Egypt. It is extinct.
Coptic was the last stage of the ancient Egyptian language, written in an alphabet based on Greek. Fayumic is known from manuscripts dating from about the 4th to the 10th century A.D., including Bible translations. A distinctive feature is its use of the letter l where other Coptic dialects have r. Like the other Coptic dialects, it was replaced by Arabic after the Arab conquest of Egypt.
