Madurese

Language Information

Madurese is spoken on the small island of Madura, lying adjacent to Java, as well as that part of eastern Java which faces Madura. Like Sundanese, it was traditionally written in the Javanese script but recently the Roman alphabet has come into use. Madurese is another of the Malayo-Polynesian languages. There are about 8 million speakers.

Madura

Sadajana oreng lahir mardika e sarenge drajat klaban hak-hak se dha-padha. Sadajana eparenge akal sareng nurani ban kodu areng-sareng akanca kadi taretan.

English translation

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
