Cowlitz was spoken in the United States, in southwestern Washington State along the Cowlitz River.
Cowlitz is a Salishan language of the Tsamosan group, related to Upper and Lower Chehalis. It has no remaining native speakers and is considered extinct, although the Cowlitz Indian Tribe, federally recognized in 2000, has documented it from earlier records.
