Friulian

Language Information

Friulian is spoken in Italy, in the Friuli region of the northeast (the provinces of Udine, Pordenone, and Gorizia), and by emigrant communities in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, and Australia.
Friulian is a Romance language, grouped with Romansh and Ladin as a Rhaeto-Romance language. It has about 600,000 speakers and is officially recognized as a minority language in Italy. The oldest Friulian texts date from the 13th and 14th centuries.
