Stoney (Nakoda) is spoken in Canada, in Alberta, mainly in the communities of Morley, Eden Valley, and Big Horn west of Calgary, and at Alexis and Paul First Nations west of Edmonton.
Stoney is a Siouan language closely related to Assiniboine, Dakota, and Lakota. It has about 3,000 speakers, which is relatively many for an Indigenous language in Canada, and it is still learned by some children.
