Northern Straits

Northern Straits Salish is spoken in Canada, in British Columbia, on southern Vancouver Island around Victoria and the Saanich Peninsula, and in the United States in northwestern Washington, among the Lummi and Samish.
Northern Straits is a Coast Salish language with several dialects, including SENCOTEN (Saanich), Lummi, and Songhees. It is critically endangered, with very few first-language speakers, but the Saanich communities run an immersion school, and the Lummi Nation teaches its dialect.
