Lushootseed is spoken in the United States, in western Washington State, around Puget Sound, including the Tulalip, Suquamish, Muckleshoot, Puyallup, Snoqualmie, and Skagit communities.
Lushootseed is a Coast Salish language. Its last first-language speakers died in the early 21st century, but it is being revived through a detailed dictionary, published stories, and school programs. The name of the city of Seattle comes from Chief Si'ahl, a Lushootseed speaker.
