Language Information

The Kposo language (also known as Ikposo or Akposo) is primarily spoken in the Plateau Region of southern Togo (west of Atakpamé, particularly in the Amou, Wawa, and Ogou prefectures) and across the border into eastern Ghana (Volta and Oti regions)
It is spoken by the Kposo people (Akposso), who are traditionally subsistence farmers cultivating crops like yams, maize, cocoa, coffee, and fonio.Colonial Impact: After World War I, colonial partitioning split the Akposso community between British (Ghana) and French (Togo) territories.Culture: Society centers around agriculture, oral storytelling, a unique five-day calendar, and the annual Ovazu harvest festival celebrating fonio.Vitality: The language is stable and used as a first language by all members of the ethnic community, though it is not formally taught in schools.
