Language Information
Kru is spoken in Liberia, along the coast from Monrovia southeast, and in southwestern Côte d'Ivoire.
The Kru languages form a group within the Niger-Congo family (formerly classed with Kwa). They include Klao, Bassa, Grebo, Bété, and Guéré, with over 2 million speakers in all. Kru sailors were famous for working on European ships along the West African coast from the 18th to the 20th century.
