Zande (Azande) is spoken in the northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, southwestern South Sudan, and the southeastern Central African Republic.
Zande is an Ubangian language with over 1 million speakers. The Azande built powerful kingdoms in the 18th and 19th centuries, and the anthropologist E. E. Evans-Pritchard made them famous with his study of their beliefs about witchcraft.
