Lydian was spoken in ancient Lydia, in western Anatolia (Turkey), around its capital, Sardis. It is extinct.
Lydian was an Anatolian language. It is known from a few hundred inscriptions in its own alphabet, from the 8th to the 3rd century B.C. The Lydian kingdom, whose most famous king was Croesus, is credited with issuing the first coins.
