Inupiak
Language Information
Inupiak (Inupiaq) is spoken in the United States, in northern and northwestern Alaska, in communities such as Utqiagvik (Barrow), Kotzebue, and Nome and along the Seward Peninsula.
Inupiak belongs to the Inuit branch of the Eskimo-Aleut family and is closely related to Inuktitut in Canada and Greenlandic. It has a few thousand speakers, most of them elders, and it is taught in schools across the North Slope and Northwest Arctic. It became one of Alaska's official languages in 2014.
