Kirundi

Language Information

Kirundi is spoken in Burundi, where it is the national language and is spoken by nearly the entire population, and by Burundian communities in Tanzania, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Kirundi is a Bantu language with about 12 million speakers. It is mutually intelligible with Kinyarwanda of Rwanda. It is an official language of Burundi, along with French and English, and is written in the Roman alphabet.

Abantu bose bavuka bishira bakizana kandi bangana mu gateka no mu ngingo zibubahiriza. Bafise ubwenge n'umutima kandi bategerezwa kwubahana nk'abavandimwe.

English translation

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
