Swiss French

Language Information

Swiss French is the French spoken in western Switzerland (the Romandy), in the cantons of Geneva, Vaud, Neuchâtel, and Jura, and in parts of Fribourg, Valais, and Bern.
Swiss French is very close to the French of France, but it has its own vocabulary and pronunciation. For example, it uses septante and nonante for 70 and 90, as in Belgium. French is spoken by about a fifth of Switzerland's population and is one of its four national languages.
