Ainu (specifically Hokkaido Ainu, native name: Ainu itak) is an endangered Indigenous language spoken in Northern East Asia.
okkaido: The primary traditional homeland where the surviving variety of the language is still learned and spoken. Greater Tokyo / Kanto Region: Significant urban Ainu communities exist in central Japan, where language classes and revival movements are also active.
Language Isolate: Ainu is classified as a language isolate (or its own distinct family, Ainuic). It has no proven genetic relationship to Japanese, Korean, or any neighboring Siberian language family.
