Cakchiquel

Language Information

Cakchiquel (Kaqchikel) is spoken in the central highlands of Guatemala, in the departments of Chimaltenango, Sacatepéquez, and Sololá, including around Lake Atitlán.
Cakchiquel is a Mayan language closely related to Quiché (K'iche'), with about 400,000 or more speakers. The Annals of the Cakchiquels, written in the 16th century, records the history of the Kaqchikel kingdom before and during the Spanish conquest.
