Carib (Kari'na) is spoken in coastal Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, and northern Brazil.
Carib belongs to the Cariban family, one of the largest language families of South America. It has about 10,000 speakers. The Caribbean Sea and the word "cannibal" both come from the name of the Carib people. The Island Carib of the Lesser Antilles, despite the name, spoke an Arawakan language.
