Language Information

Cheyenne is spoken in the United States, on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in southeastern Montana and among the Southern Cheyenne in western Oklahoma.
Cheyenne is an Algonquian language of the Great Plains. The Cheyenne moved from the Great Lakes region to the Plains in the 17th and 18th centuries. The language is endangered, with perhaps a thousand or fewer speakers, most of them older adults, but Chief Dull Knife College in Montana teaches it.
