Language Information
Chiquito (Chiquitano) is spoken in eastern Bolivia, in the department of Santa Cruz.
Chiquitano has no proven relatives, though it is sometimes grouped with the Macro-Ge languages. Jesuit missionaries gathered the Chiquitano into missions in the 17th and 18th centuries, whose churches are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The language is endangered, with a few thousand speakers.
