Comanche is spoken in the United States, in southwestern Oklahoma, around Lawton.
Comanche is a Uto-Aztecan language of the Numic group, closely related to Shoshone. In the 18th and 19th centuries the Comanche controlled much of the southern Great Plains. During World War II, Comanche code talkers used the language to send secret messages for the U.S. Army. Today it is critically endangered, with very few fluent speakers.
