Fanakalo
Language Information
Fanakalo is a pidgin language used in South Africa, especially in the gold and diamond mines, and in neighboring countries.
Fanakalo is based mainly on Zulu, with words from English and Afrikaans. It developed in the 19th century as a command language between European supervisors and African workers of many language backgrounds. Its use has declined since the end of apartheid, and it is now little used.
