Fanti

Language Information

Fanti (Fante) is spoken in Ghana, along the central coast, around Cape Coast and Saltpond.
Fanti is a dialect of Akan, a Kwa language, with about 2 million or more speakers. The Fanti were among the first Ghanaians in contact with European traders, and many coastal forts and castles, such as Cape Coast Castle, stand in Fanti territory.

Wɔwo adasa nyina to fahodzi mu, na hɔn nyina yɛ pɛr wɔ enyimnyam na ndzinoa mu. Wɔmaa hɔn nyina adwen na tsibowa, na ɔwɔ dɛ hɔn nkitahodzi mu ndzeyɛɛ da no edzi dɛ wɔyɛ enuanom.

English translation

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
