Hindustani is an Indo-Aryan language with two standard forms: Hindi, written in the Devanagari script with a vocabulary drawing on Sanskrit, and Urdu, written in the Perso-Arabic script with a vocabulary drawing on Persian and Arabic. In everyday speech the two are largely the same. Together they are spoken by over 600 million people as a first or second language, and Hindustani is the language of Bollywood films.
