Ingush is spoken in Russia, in the Republic of Ingushetia in the North Caucasus, and in neighboring North Ossetia and Chechnya.
Ingush is a Nakh language, closely related to Chechen, with about 300,000 or more speakers. The Ingush were deported to Central Asia by Stalin in 1944 and allowed to return in 1957.
