Jivaro (Shuar) is spoken in the Amazon region of southeastern Ecuador and northern Peru.
Shuar belongs to the Jivaroan family and has about 35,000 to 50,000 speakers. The Shuar were known historically for their fierce resistance to the Inca and the Spanish, and for making shrunken heads (tsantsa).
