Kâte is spoken in Papua New Guinea, on the Huon Peninsula of Morobe Province, near Finschhafen.
Kâte is a Trans-New Guinea language. It has about 10,000 native speakers, but German Lutheran missionaries made it a church and school language for many peoples of the region in the early 20th century, so many more people once spoke it as a second language.
