Language Information
Manchu is spoken in northeastern China, in Heilongjiang Province. It was the language of the Qing dynasty, which ruled China from 1644 to 1912.
Manchu is a Southern Tungusic language. Despite being the language of China's last imperial court, it is now critically endangered, with only a handful of elderly native speakers. It is written in a vertical script adapted from Mongolian. The closely related Xibe language is still spoken in Xinjiang.
