Language Information

Minangkabau is spoken in Indonesia, in West Sumatra, and by communities throughout Indonesia and in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia.
Minangkabau is a Malayic language, closely related to Malay, with about 5 million or more speakers. The Minangkabau are the largest matrilineal society in the world and are known for their buffalo-horn-shaped roofs and their spicy cuisine, including rendang.

Sadonyo manusia dilahiakan mardeka dan punyo martabat sarato hak-hak nan samo. Mareka dikaruniai aka jo hati nurani, supayo satu samo lain bagaul sarupo urang badunsanak.

English translation

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
