Mon is spoken in southern Myanmar (Mon State) and in Thailand.
Mon is a Mon-Khmer (Austroasiatic) language with about 800,000 speakers. The Mon founded some of the earliest kingdoms of Southeast Asia and spread Theravada Buddhism in the region. The Burmese script was adapted from the Mon script.
