Nyankole

Language Information

Nyankole (Runyankore) is spoken in southwestern Uganda, in the former kingdom of Ankole, around Mbarara.
Nyankole is a Bantu language with about 3 million or more speakers, closely related to Kiga, Nyoro, and Tooro. The Ankole are known for their long-horned cattle.

Nyankore

Abantu nibazaarwa baine obugabe nobushoborozi ebiri kwingana nibahangwa baine obwengye kandi barikubasa kwahura ekirungi nekibi, nahabwekyo abantu bashemereire kutuura kumwe nkabanya Uganda.

English translation

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
