Language Information

Zapotec is spoken in southern Mexico, mainly in Oaxaca, and by migrants in the United States.
Zapotec is a group of over 50 closely related Oto-Manguean languages with about 450,000 speakers. The ancient Zapotecs built the city of Monte Albán and had one of the earliest writing systems in the Americas. Benito Juárez, president of Mexico, was Zapotec.
