Mazatec is spoken in southern Mexico, in northern Oaxaca, around Huautla de Jiménez, and in Puebla and Veracruz.
Mazatec is an Oto-Manguean language with about 200,000 speakers. It is a tonal language, and some speakers use a whistled form of it to communicate over distances.
