Kiwi refers to New Zealand English and to the informal speech of New Zealanders.
New Zealand English is close to Australian English but has its own accent and vocabulary, including many words borrowed from Maori, such as kia ora (hello) and whanau (family). "Kiwi," after New Zealand's national bird, is a popular name for New Zealanders.
