Umbundu is spoken in central Angola, on the Benguela Plateau and in the provinces of Huambo, Bié, and Benguela.
Umbundu is a Bantu language and the most widely spoken African language of Angola, with about 7 million speakers, roughly a quarter of the population. It is the language of the Ovimbundu people. It should not be confused with Kimbundu, a separate Bantu language spoken farther north around Luanda.
