Language Information
Cornish is spoken in the United Kingdom, in Cornwall, the southwestern tip of England.
Cornish is a Brythonic Celtic language, closely related to Breton and Welsh. It declined under English influence and died out as a community language in the late 18th century; Dolly Pentreath of Mousehole, who died in 1777, is often called the last native speaker. A revival movement began in the early 20th century, and today several hundred people speak it fluently, some of whom have raised children with it. A Standard Written Form was agreed in 2008, and UNESCO no longer lists it as extinct.
