Fon

Language Information

Fon is spoken in southern Benin, especially around Abomey and Cotonou, and in neighboring Togo and Nigeria.
Fon belongs to the Gbe group of Kwa languages and is closely related to Ewe. It has about 2 million speakers and is the most widely spoken language of Benin. It was the language of the Kingdom of Dahomey, and the religion of the Fon, Vodun, gave its name to Haitian Vodou.

English translation
