Bambara

Language Information

Bambara (Bamanankan) is spoken in Mali, where it is the most widely used language, and in neighboring Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, and Guinea.
Bambara is a Mande language of the Manding group, closely related to Malinke and Dyula. It has about 4 million native speakers and over 10 million more who use it as a second language. It is written in the Roman alphabet and in N'Ko, a script created in 1949.

English translation

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
