Herero is spoken in Namibia, mainly in the center and east of the country, and in Botswana and southern Angola.
Herero is a Bantu language with about 250,000 speakers. Between 1904 and 1908 the German colonial army killed most of the Herero people, in what is recognized as the first genocide of the 20th century. Herero women are known for their Victorian-style dresses and horn-shaped headdresses.
