Mbundu

Language Information

Mbundu (Kimbundu, or North Mbundu) is spoken in northern Angola, around Luanda and Malanje.
Kimbundu is a Bantu language with about 1.7 million speakers. It was the language of the Kingdom of Ndongo and its famous 17th-century Queen Nzinga. Many Angolan slaves were brought to Brazil, and Kimbundu contributed many words to Brazilian Portuguese. It should not be confused with Umbundu, spoken farther south.

Mbundu

O athu woso avwala abhuluka ni kusokela mu kijingu ni mu itekelu. Ene ala ni ulungilu ni kilunji ni atokala kulaya kumoxi nya akwa mu mixima ya undandu.

English translation

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
