Language Information

Tamashek (Tamasheq) is spoken by the Tuareg in Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Algeria, and Libya, across the Sahara and Sahel.
Tamashek is a Berber (Amazigh) language with about 1 to 2 million speakers. It has its own ancient script, Tifinagh, traditionally taught by women. The Tuareg are known as the "blue men" of the desert for their indigo-dyed clothing.
