Bariba (Baatonum, also called Bargu) is spoken in northern Benin, around Parakou and Nikki, and in western Nigeria.
Bariba is a Gur (Voltaic) language with about 1 million speakers. The Bariba kingdoms of Nikki and Bussa were important states in the region before the colonial period.
