Bosnian is spoken in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where it is an official language, and in the Sandžak region of Serbia and Montenegro, and in Kosovo.
Bosnian is a standard form of Serbo-Croatian used mainly by Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims), with about 2.5 million speakers. It is written in both the Roman and Cyrillic alphabets and includes many words of Turkish, Arabic, and Persian origin.
